NEUROLOGICAL TESTING is an important method of diagnosing disorders in the nerves, muscles, spinal cord and brain. These tests measure the speed and intensity of electrical signals that travel along the nerves and calculate the time and velocities of your muscles' responses to these impulses. Nerve function maybe compromised by the onset of disease, injury or other conditions.
NEUROLOGICAL STUDIES ARE PERFORMED BY placing electrodes on the skin over specific nerve sites. A tiny electrical impulse is sent through the electrodes, stimulating the nerve. Monitors reflect your nervous system's activity in waveforms. Your body's response to the stimulus is recorded and analyzed by a specialized computer. You will experience a slight tingling sensation for a fraction of a second when the stimulus is administered, but most patients consider the tests to be painless and quite tolerable.
