MRI is the most advanced imaging method available in the world today. This technology allows physicians to look inside your body without the use of surgery, dyes or x-rays. The MRI uses a harmless magnetic field and radio waves to produce remarkably clear images of the human anatomy. The MRI is used to detect developing disease or abnormalities in the spine, brain, joints or other vital organs.
WHEN THE MRI IS PERFORMED you will be asked to lie comfortably on a cushioned table. Depending on the part of the body to be examined, your head, limbs, or your entire body will be moved into the center of the magnet. When the MRI begins you will hear a muffled thumping sound and feel air moving. Relax and try to remain as still as possible. You will be able to speak with the technician throughout the test using an intercom system. Depending on what body parts are being studied, the test will last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. |
